The History of Summit & Broadway Properties
After succeeding in the oil business, the family advanced into the real estate
industry.
Formed in 2000, Summit & Broadway Properties is owned by the four children of
Richard and Josephine Schweitzer: Rick, Mary Jo, Janine, and Mark.
In the fall of 1999, after running the family oil business successfully for several
years, the family found themselves in need of a larger, modernized facility. An
exhaustive one year search of potential locations yielded no results, and the family
decided to construct their own facility from the ground up.
In September of 2000, they purchased 15 acres at the intersection of Summit & Broadway in Crown Point, Indiana, and began their
development. Immediately after the purchase, designs for both the new facility and the development were put into place.
By July 2002, the new facility was completed and all extra lots were sold. It was then decided to purchase 25 additional acres
adjacent to the first development and began the infrastructure of Phase 2.
After marketing and selling most lots in the newly created development, the family made several non-traditional purchases, such as
mid-rise condos, high-rise condos, and a retail strip.
Today, the majority of Summit & Broadway Properties’ revenue comes from rentals and any form of new property that could be
added to the inventory.
